The Downsides of Solar Power |
Posted: October 31, 2017 |
With the world becoming more harsh to live as the years go by, more and more people are doing their part in preserving a habitable planet. One of the ways that this is achieved is by using reusable and sustainable energy sources, the most reliable and popular one being solar energy. The sun is constantly beaming light on the planet, and it's definitely a more promising energy source than the rather unpredictable blow of the wind. However, as clean as solar energy may come, it's not without its drawbacks. Fortunately, these shortcomings in solar power are somewhat trivial. And the benefits far outweigh them. 1. Solar panels are expensive. Although going green with solar energy used to be a monumental to downright impossible because of its cost, the prices have gone down year after year. Nevertheless, solar panels still cost a substantial amount. Buyers will have to think twice about their decision to use solar energy. It's both a good thing and a bad thing. It's bad because people can't just switch to solar power on a whim, it's good because it inadvertently sets up a mental commitment to the switch to solar power. In other words, there's no turning back, unless of course the family or business finds it absolutely normal to abandon expensive solar equipment. 2. There are plenty of options available. Having a lot of options might sound like an advantage in practically anything in life. But the truth is that sometimes options can be so overwhelming that making simple decisions traps individuals in an analysis paralysis. Instead of thinking too much of it, check out review on the Internet to get a better idea as to which company produces good quality solar panels and related equipment. Choosing between Panasonic vs SunPower Solar panels can be a bit daunting without proper guidance so it's best to turn to the Internet for help. 3. Real estate availability. Solar energy as the only source of power is not for everyone, at least not for people who are living in studio apartments. There's no place to install large solar panels in such locations. At the very least, they can use solar energy to power some of their devices like a single laptop or several mobile phones. Homes that have ample room for solar panels are lucky, as they have the capability to fully switch to using clean energy source. This is a serious consideration when planning to go solar because it's a big determining factor on how far one can go in integrating solar energy into their home. In time, there might be new developments in solar cells that can allow smaller cells to fit in a smaller panel. But at the moment, some applications of solar energy just aren’t practical. The availability of sunlight, which is not that dependable in some places in the world, can also hamper an attempt of going green with solar energy. Ultimately, one has to understand that using solar energy as a primary source of power takes a lot of research to know if it's viable to begin with, and commitment to keep using it regardless of replacements that are needed down the road.
