The purchase of major appliances always constitutes a major investment, but when you’re looking for an apartment size washer and dryer, you have even more to consider. Take a look at five basic factors of this important decisions. One: Do You Prefer Gas or Electricity? Many consumers don’t have the option of rewiring electricity or adding gas lines to their apartment. If this is the case, you’ll want to determine whether you have gas or electricity before you buy the wrong appliances. If you have the luxury of choosing either one, you should consider the price comparison between electricity and gas, as well as your concern about your carbon footprint. Two: What Type of Hook-Ups Do You Already Have? Take a close look at the venting and utility hook-ups to be sure that you have access to the dryer vent, waste water outlet, source water hose, and the appropriate gas and/or electricity hook-ups. Measure the area to ensure the right amount of air flow for safe operation, in addition to the space needed for your apartment size washer and dryer combo. Three: Should You Invest in a Moisture Sensor? If you opt for a dryer with a moisture sensor, you’ll end up saving energy because the sensor ensures that you don’t continue drying clothes that are no longer wet. When you reduce drying time, you’ll save money on your utility bills. Four: Front or Top Loaders? There are advantages to each of these formats, so be sure to do some research in this area. In general, a front loader uses less detergent, water, and energy. The major benefit of top loaders is the lower price and general affordability. Five: How Many Loads of Laundry Do You Do? Do you have stacks of laundry all over your home? Do you intend to wash your bedding at home? If you’re in the market for an apartment size washer and dryer, you may already find that you have to choose a compact size. If you have more than a few people to wash for (up to three) or if you plan to wash large items such as duvets or comforters, then you’ll need something closer to an oversized dryer. The typical range is between three and seven cubic feet. With these questions, and your corresponding answers in mind, you’ll be ready to head out to buy an apartment size washer and dryer. You may end up with an oversized set of appliances with a low profile or a compact apartment size washer and dryer combo. Either way, you’ll have the confidence of knowing that you had planned for the purchase.
