A Better Understanding of Online Prescribing |
Posted: July 18, 2017 |
The advent of the internet has tremendously changed the lives of individuals around the world. In general, everything has become easier, faster, and more convenient because of it. In fact, years after the internet has been introduced, people can already access medical workers using online platforms. Such is not just accessing their information or details but also the ability to book doctors online to seek medical consultations or advise, anytime and anywhere as long as there is an internet connection. The good thing is that such doctors are also licensed and trained in their fields of expertise. However, people should remember that they should carefully check the online doctor prior to hiring or booking him or her.
In addition, there are also some online doctors that provide prescriptions. The ability to give prescriptions via online platforms depends on the country and state wherein the consultation is being done. Some countries and/or states have strict regulations and conditions that need to be followed. In general, online doctors can prescribe antibiotics, antifungal drugs, anti-allergies, birth control pills, and nasal sprays. Traditionally, prescriptions are written by the physician and given to the patient so that they can buy such in the pharmacy. Online prescriptions, on the other hand, are not given directly to the patient. Generally speaking, they are electronically transferred to a pharmacy wherein the patient can pick them up either together with the medicines already or not. The only fall back that can be seen from the process is that pharmacies should have their own e-prescribing software. Thus, a pharmacy that may be preferred by the client may not have such system. Meaning, there is only a few selections of pharmacies wherein online doctors can send the prescriptions. Nevertheless, the benefits of online prescribing or e-prescribing cannot be ignored. In fact, as shown by some data published, the gross spending of individuals on drugs prescribed online increased to $425 billion in the year 2015. Thus, it can be noted that more people already prefer the online prescribing or e-prescribing process. One of the advantages of e-prescribing is that people can save a lot of time. Such is due to the fact that they can just drop by the pharmacy and pick up the prescription and medicine. Thus, the process of handing out the prescription and having it checked by the pharmacist is already done when they arrive. All the pharmacist has to do is dispense the medicine. Additionally, when people speak to a doctor online and let him or her prescribe their medicines, the pharmacist also benefits from such. That is because he or she will not have a hard time reading the prescription, which is common for handwritten prescriptions. People who have insurance policies should also not worry because online doctors can check out the brands of medicines that are being covered by their insurance companies. Additionally, the online prescribers can also securely learn more about the patient's prescription history. Such is important so that they can prevent any potential drug interactions, allergies, and other warnings.
