How Does Technology Help When You're on Travel? |
Posted: January 28, 2020 |
Almost all facets of life of life today leverage technology in some way. Technology has immensely impacted how people work, communicate, do business, and travel. Travel culminates in exciting experiences – experiences that remain indelibly etched in our memories. And technology is making travel a whole lot better than it has ever been. But how does technology help you travel better and more conveniently? 1. Booking Flights Now Easier Than Ever Whether you're traveling locally or are planning on visiting a destination no one's heard of, you'll likely fly. You'll book flights. That means you might need to work with a travel agent. But agents can prove quite costly in the long run, especially if you're always on the go. Fortunately, you can always count on technology. With a few effortless taps, you can book your flight. To do that, all you need is your smartphone and internet connection. And you don't need to chat with or call anyone if you prefer not to. Not surprisingly, 82 percent of all travel bookings seen in 2018 were executed via a mobile app or website. There are tons of easy to register and use apps that make the whole process seamless. Now, finding the right app for booking your flight should be pretty easy. And that brings us to the next point. 2. Travel Apps Mean Boundless Convenience Apps have permeated all of existence. It's extremely difficult to find a company or service provider that doesn't use an app(s). From airlines to banks, insurance companies and retail giants – just about everyone uses apps these days. And that's no accident. Apps deliver loads of convenience, and they often save users money and time. In fact, apps are saving people's lives. Imagine that someone is out there biking and having fun. But an accident happens, and they fall off the bike, getting terribly injured. Luckily, they have a smart device. Maybe it's an Apple watch that automatically texts the victim's family or their physician. That way, the person gets the help they need and that saves their life. This is a hypothetical scenario, but one that actually happens. And no, you won't get involved in an accident on your travels. Your trip will be a roaring success, and one that you'll remember for a long time. With the right apps, you can get discounts on accommodations, flights, taxi services, and many other areas. Simply whip out your smartphone, laptop or tablet and make all the arrangements needed to have a memorable journey. Also, thanks to modern technology, the chances that you’re going to get lost in an unfamiliar place are next to none.. There's always Google Maps to turn to, and it doesn’t disappoint. Maybe you're wondering how useful Google Maps would be in a place with poor internet connection. If you think the place you're visiting might pose connection-related challenges, download the directions in advance. It’s all about preparedness and proper planning. 3. Pamper Yourself for an Hour in an Airport Pod Nobody thinks much about exhaustion and stuff like jetlag during a trip's planning phase. Then, all of a sudden you land in some distant city and you're tired as heck. Naturally, you want to find a nice spot and take a nap, enjoy a cold drink or just relax. Luckily, you can always buy your way into some peace and quiet in the lounge. But there's no accessing the lounge without shelling out a small fortune. Here's the good news. Technology has brought into existence airport pods — a truly refreshing reality. With these comfy spaces, you no longer need to wander aimlessly around super-busy airports. These capsules come equipped with a comfortable chair that doubles up as a bed. In addition, the pods offer ample room for your luggage. Plus, you can charge your smartphone, tablet, or laptop as you relax. Love Netflix? Yes, these pods offer Netflix and Wi-Fi to boot. While not every airport offers these awesome spaces, some do. You can be sure pretty much every airline will have them in the near future. 4. Know the Wait Times at Airports in Advance If you lack accurate wait time information, you can end up stressed out or even annoyed. But thanks to technology, you can learn (in advance) security-related information so you can breeze right through. Here's what to do. Move over to Google Play or App Store. Once there, search for an app called "Breeze Through Security" and download it. With the app, you can instantly know what wait times you're looking at, and what items are or aren't allowed. That information helps you to quickly formulate a travel checklist so you can pack your luggage without worry. You can also get reliable information regarding special-needs passengers such as seniors or the disabled. Don't like how the airline runs their security screening checkpoints? Give them a piece of your mind via the app. As you can see, technology can help you plan your trip more intelligently. 5. Know the World's Cities Better with Volocopters Helicopters are great when it comes to helping adventurous folks reach some of the hardest-to-reach spots on Earth. They are useful when you want to take aerial pics as you hover over magnificent locations. Unfortunately, private jets don’t come cheap, and they may not be ideal for sight-seeing. And that's where passenger drones come in. German-designed Volocopter is a passenger drone that can make zipping around the city unbelievably exciting. The drone looks pretty much like a mini helicopter. But instead of using rotors, the vehicle features a large wheel positioned on the top. The passenger drone has been subjected to a battery of tests and found to be safe. It's also quiet. The thing can stay in the air for up to 30 minutes, and it runs purely on electric power. In addition, piloting the drone can be done from inside it. Or the vehicle can be controlled remotely. It's difficult to think of a better way of decongesting the world's largest cities. Maybe this invention will change how pilot training programs are structured. Flying schools and independent instructors need to review their programs. They must start covering emerging air transport-related technologies like the Volocopter. Unfortunately, Volocopters aren't available yet for use by the public. At least, they're not available as of this writing. However, the vehicles have gone through a myriad of tests already, and you might soon use them. 6. Augmented Reality (AR) Can Help You Decide What Places to See If there's one single piece of digital technology that's massively influencing what people do during travel, that's AR. Hotels are increasingly using this invention to help potential clients make various decisions easily. The technology virtually enhances locations and attractions and rockets the user there so they can experience everything. AR alters the way people perceive reality, particularly their surroundings. Unlike Virtual Reality, AR doesn’t try to completely block out the real world. Instead, this technology enhances reality by overlying computer-generated content on actual reality. AR is, in a sense, a blend of two worlds — the real and the virtual world. So, how does AR work? Let's pretend you’re on vacation and you're staying in a hotel that sits on the foothills of the Himalayas. AR can help you perch on the top of the tallest peak without scaling the mighty Mount Everest. Technology is pretty much everywhere these days. A myriad of technological advancements keep cropping up, and they're shaking things a bit across industries. The travel industry is no exception. Thankfully, you don't need to be a techie to leverage these technologies. With basic tech knowledge, you can make each one of your trips memorable.
