The Best Solar Battery Storage Options Available Now
As modern technology advances it looks like very soon solar panels mounted on your roof are going to be cheaper than grid electricity all around the world. In fact, in many countries that haven’t already installed utility poles and wires, the cost of solar panels is already much cheaper. However, the biggest problem now seems to be battery backup storage systems to provide power at night or on cloudy days. G-Store batteries haven’t kept up with the solar panels in price reductions so far and now they are the more expensive part of a system.
There Are Several Ways To Store Power
The most efficient way to store power is actually called power time shifting. This is where you get a larger water heater, with far more insulation, and then heat up the water during the daylight for use at night or on cloudy days. This reduces the need for as much battery backup and is less expensive than buying more batteries. By buying more efficient appliances, and using them on timers when the power is most available, you can reduce your nighttime power usage considerably.
Getting more efficient lighting, TVs, computers, and other electronic goods is also a great idea. Most LED lights use but a fraction of the amount of power of incandescent bulbs, and still far less than fluorescent as well. They also last up to 50 years without burning out which makes them less expensive over the long-term.
Lead Acid Solar Battery Storage Systems Are Losing Their Ground To Lithium Ion
In the past, lead acid batteries were the only choice but lately the price of lithium ion batteries has fallen dramatically. A lithium ion battery not only stores a lot more energy in a smaller, more compact battery, but they also can charge and discharge many more times before wearing out. They are the future of solar battery storage for at least the next decade.
There are also salt water battery systems that are being worked on and they do have some promise for solar storage as well. They tend to be much larger than a lithium ion battery, but they show promise for being a lot cheaper, less flammable, and having a much longer lifespan.
In the future there are bound to be many more options, lower prices, and longer lifespans for all types of energy storage. For now, the lithium ion battery looks to be the best option until something better proves itself in the marketplace.
