It seems like every time I see a Book Store, the top selling author is some kind of'Hollywood Star'A-List' celebrity who has published a new book that's going to sell like hotcakes. No one seems to be doing much else but writing books and selling them to bookstores. This is strange, since we all know that book stores have an amazing depth of knowledge and curiosity about the writers and functions they carry.
Recently I attended a Marketing Conference for the Marketing Industry. 1 thing that struck me was how out of touch the major publishers are with the tastes of the average reader. The convention was going on during Super Bowl week, so it was evident that the best sales people were there.
They talked about how important it is to market children's books, and the hottest selling children's books of the year. Children's Book Publishers involved in Children's Books thinks it is their job to generate the biggest blockbuster ever, not the most popular book in the current market. The older generation won't read novels for children, and younger readers will only see one book per month if any at all.
But the moment the conference was finished, I realized I had forgotten what I had learned in school about the Traditional Values and Family Values I did not understand. I remembered that I wanted to make sure that when I was producing my next Children's Book, it would tell a story that was meaningful to my youthful audience. I had a feeling that if I took a few minutes and really explored the possibilities I would get an idea about what I should be writing.
As I entered the bookstore, the first book I noticed was by a Christian Writer. Not only was the cover amazing, but it was also written by a bestselling Christian Writer. A Christian author wasn't traditionally allowed to write for kids, but there he was, making $30,000 per month book available to millions of readers all over the world. After I noticed this particular title, I realized that it was not only possible, but something that I should be thinking about doing.
As I walked into the Children's Book section, the top selling book was a wonderful story about a group of friends in the Christian religion who were carrying an interesting journey. The publication contained strong moral lessons, but it was written to be appreciated with a Christian Family. In actuality, this writer seemed to know exactly what his target audience wanted.
The writer, John Stanley, has worked with both small and large Publishers, as well as non-profit organizations, and has been featured in numerous publications, and radio programs. He has spoken to a lot of national leaders on the topics of business, social and religious freedoms.
His goal with the book was to create a book that is funny, inspiring, and enlightening. It is well known in his community that he wants to educate his community about Biblical principles. I immediately knew that this writer was going to be a success.
When I stepped into the books aisle, I realized that this brand new book that I had come across was probably the book that he would be publishing. The cover revealed two friends, who happen to be non-believers, playing football in the snow.
The book title,"Life is like a Soccer" was smart, since it revealed two famous atheists playing a great sport. The writer went so far as to include verses from the Bible on the inside cover.
If you have ever wanted to print a Christian-themed book, or one having a more religious theme, then John Stanley could be the writer for you. His success can be attributed to his new age approach to creating his Christian publication. He was able to use his creativity and knowledge of publishing practices to create a book that appealed to a wide range of Christian viewers.
I had been impressed with his new age approach to publishing, and as he wasn't a man that has a lot of experience in publishing, I was happy to work with him on this project. He's also an avid film maker and knows how to market his product to be able to reach the widest audience possible. When it comes to turning a creative idea into a real life long profitable item, there are very few people that come close to John Stanley.
