The question many new golfers ask themselves is, “How long doe it take to become good at golf?” You may be surprised, but many experienced golfers ask themselves the same question. Gary Player, a professional golfer, once said, “You must work very hard to become a natural golfer.” If you want to become a pro golfer, start with learning golfing terms and meaning. Many golfers give up the game because they do not get better soon enough. One true fact about golf is that you will never master the game of golf. Even the best golfers in the world have golf coaches and are learning more about the game every round they play. In order to get better at golf, you must practice. It is a matter of playing and learning about the game. Getting good at golf is really determined by a lot of factors. It depends on ability, set goals, the amount of time you spend practicing, your ability to learn, and the knowledge that you will never know everything there is to know. Arnold Palmer is reported as saying, “It’s a funny thing, the more I practice the luckier I get.” If you play once a month and never practice, you may never get good at golf. If you play once a month, but practice three times a week, then you can still improve. If you decide to take golf lessons, then you will learn quicker by figuring out what you are doing wrong and correcting those mistakes. “Don’t be too proud to take a lesson. I ‘m not,” Jack Nicklaus once said during an interview. Once you have decided that you know everything there is about the game of golf will be the time you play your worst round of golf. This is what makes golf one of the greatest sports. You always have to be learning. You never play two rounds the same way. Golfers get better when they know their capabilities. If you just started playing the game, hit the shots you know you can hit and not the shots you want to hit. As you start to get better, then you can start implementing all the things you have learned. Perfect your pitching and chipping on the practice green or driving range. Spend plenty of time on the practice green putting the ball. You should practice with beginners golf ball. Golf is a matter of confidence. Once you have built up your confidence, then you will start playing better. Some new golfers pick of the game very quickly. Other new golfers take time, but if you continue to practice, work on your shots and take a few lessons, then you will start getting better. It really is a matter of your willingness to put the time in. The more time you put in, the quicker you will get good at golf. Figure on one good year of hard practice and playing several rounds of golf to start getting better. However, figure on a lifetime to get good at golf. The quickest way to get better is to practice your short game. More than half of your shots will be made from 100 yards from the green or closer. Set achievable goals, such as not making more than three putts on a green. Golf is a matter of repetition and memory. If you can keep replicating that good swing, you will get good at golf.
