What is chura?
Chura is a form of bangle that is worn by Punjabi brides after the wedding. If you see any girl adorning bridal chura in her hand, that signifies she is a newly wedded bride. There is a separate Chura ceremony that takes place before the wedding, wherein the uncle of the girl puts the chura bangles in her hands by dipping it in milk. This is then kept tied with a cloth and the bride is restrained from seeing the bangles before the marriage.
What makes Chura auspicious?
The Chura comprises of white and maroon bangles studded with small stones and mirrors over it. It is worn in either hand for an approximate of 40 days, 6 months to that of 1 year. After one year, there is another ceremony which is carried out to remove the chura.
What is a Kalire?
Kalira in olden days comprised of coconuts and nuts which hung from the bangle for the bride to have it on her way to the marriage hall. However, with time, the kalire design has gone through a lot of changes. It now comes in different variants and one can also get their bridal kalire customized as per choice. These add to the glimmer of the bride’s entire look making her look more resplendent and charming.
