9 Common Fishing Mistakes And How To Avoid Them
|
Posted: August 1, 2018 |
Fishing, whether it is a relaxing hobby or done for sport can be one of the most rewarding activities a person can dedicate their time on. On the other hand, it can also be one of the most frustrating things a novice angler will face when they keep coming home empty-handed. After a couple of fishing trips that result in zero bites, there must be something wrong with your technique.
These are the common mistakes you might be making while fishing and how to change them:
#1 - Using An Old Line
It is common for anglers to rely on their old gear believing it is lucky, but after a while, a worn out line is no longer effective. Replace old lines at once, especially when you notice that the line keeps snapping in half while you’re reeling in a catch.
#2 - The Wrong Hook
Not all hooks work the same way when fishing. The type and size of hook to use will depend on the fish you are trying to catch. Bigger fish will need bigger hooks while smaller hooks will only work on smaller fish. Attract more bites with a new Sprinkler Frog on the line too, this lure might just be what you need!
#3 - Drag Is Too Tight
A tight drag will cause the line to snap anywhere and anytime. Adjust your drag properly before you start fishing to ensure you don’t lose a catch when it comes near you.
#4 - Drag Is Too Loose
While a tight drag can snap, a line that is too loose can wrap around underwater obstructions and cause the line to break. Find a good balance in drag setting to avoid losing any fish or snapping your lines.
#5 - Dull Fish Hooks
A dull hook will not pierce the lips of a fish. Make sure to replace any old and dull hooks with new ones so there’s no chance of the fish getting loose once it has taken a bite.
#6 - Wrong Lure
The Sprinkler Frog is a great choice for lures, but it is suggested by many anglers to have at least a couple of choices. Fish are attracted to different types of bait and lures and there is no one lure that will work for all fish. Do your research and find out what lures the type of fish you are planning to hook are attracted to the most.
# 7 - Working The Lure Too Fast
It can be tempting to bob your chosen lure fast to attract the first bite, but this can actually scare the fish away. Don’t be impatient, simply let the lure work normally and the fish will come sooner or later.
#8 - Having No Patience
Fishing requires a lot of relaxing and patience. You cannot expect a bite after just a few minutes. Take this time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Don’t give up after a few tries, the fish will bite in due time.
#9 - Bad Fishing Knots
Before setting out on your next fishing trip be sure to brush up on your knot tying skills. This is easily the most common mistake made by novice anglers. A poorly tied knot will come loose and slip, resulting in a lost catch. Take the extra time to practice knot tying to ensure no knot comes loose on your next trip. |
