Contractors sought for North Queensland flood recovery
Suppliers are invited to register their contact details to assist with the clean-up effort after the North Queensland floods.
The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is keen to hear from licensed contractors, especially in the asbestos removal and electrical trades, to add their contact details to the North Queensland Supplier Flood Register.
“I would suggest you register ASAP as the insurance companies, project managers and householders will all be accessing this space,” QBCC said in a written statement.
Applicants will need to provide their company or contractor name, licence number, list of services and contact details. An additional form is also required for all services, including asbestos removal and electrical trades, among others.
Existing QBCC members will also be able to upload their details to the Find A Master Builder site. Simply add a listing and mark it as “live”.
“Licensed contractors can include their details in the register by clicking on ‘contractor registration’ [link] below and filling-in the required information,” the register website said. “Your application will then be assessed for possible inclusion in the register.”
The register will be made available online for homeowners, who are affected by the flood, to search for licensed contractors who can help do repairs and make homes safe, secure and habitable again.
“The North Qld Flood Register will let you search for licensed contractors who are available to help with repairs to make homes secure, safe and habitable. Simply click on the ‘Search the Register’ [link],” the register website said.
According to the Insurance Council of Australia, more than 10,000 insurance claims have been made in the Townsville area alone and a further 16,000 claims have separately been submitted for personal hardship assistance. Total damage caused by the floods is estimated to be worth more than $161 million.
