For the month of June the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported 2.7 percent global growth in demand for airfreight measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs). This is less than half the rate reported for the same period last year. On the capacity side, the growth was 4.1 percent, which marks the fourth consecutive month that growth in capacity overshadowed growth in demand. Glyn Hughes, global head of cargo at IATA , reflects on decline in demand growth, massive capacity addition that would eventually come in from the orders placed at Farnborough Air Show for main deck freighters and trade tariffs and their impact on air cargo volumes.
