Babysitting vs. Daycare |

Many parents these days have a lot more to deal with than their parents. Culturally, it was much more common in the past to stay around your family. When you reach the point when you are ready to have children, a lot of people rely on the help of their parents and siblings to help out with the stresses of raising a child. Just having someone that you know you can trust with the baby is important because this is a precious life and you are not leaving your child with the same guy that you go drinking with on the weekends. The other big difference these days as opposed to the baby boomer generation is that a lot of the parents are both employed full-time. The idea of a housewife seems almost like a thing of the past, so more and more parents need to find someone that can take care of the kids when they are working all day. Two of the main options in that regard is babysitters and daycare and they each offer their own pros and cons. Here are some of the biggest differences to consider when deciding between babysitters and daycare. Cost They say that you get what you pay for and that is pretty much the case when it comes to the care for your child. Simply with the private attention that you are getting from a babysitter as opposed to a daycare program, you are going to have to pay a little more to get that. Affordable daycare is much easier to find than cheap babysitting. The level of experience and care that you want is important, so sometimes defraying the cost of that professional by sacrificing personal attention could be the best option for you. Attention The simple math is going to show you that your child will receive more attention from a babysitter than they would in a daycare. There are other kids to take care of as well in daycare, so your baby might have to sit in a dirty diaper just a little bit longer than they would if someone was right there to smell it and change them. Most daycare centers have limits to the number of babies they take, however, because they are careful about maintaining a low ratio of babies to daycare professionals. Peers The other side of the coin when it comes to attention is that the sacrifice comes because you are adding in potential friends and companions for the baby. There are plenty of benefits from early social interaction to the ability to help build immunities by exposing your kid to a lot of different germs, but the best might be the network for both the baby and the parents. You have a plethora of potential play dates right there in front of you. Location Most of the time, babysitting takes place in your own house, so you have all your own toys and your space that the baby is comfortable with. When they are in daycare, it is a whole new setting and sharing toys. Drop offs can be a hassle, so some people prefer when the babysitter just comes right to them.
