How to create a country farmhouse inspired bedroom |

One of my favorite vacations I ever took was in the French countryside. It was technically a week long cooking class but it was hosted in this quaint bed and breakfast. We ate a lot of the meals we cooked which was great but the most memorable part of the whole experience was getting a feel for how relaxing it was to live in the french countryside. People actually enjoy the small things in every life, a simple walk through town, going to a farmers market, savoring fresh ingredients. While I still use some of the recipes I used during that cooking class, the experience I had in the French Countryside has influenced other aspects of of my life. In particular, I loved the effortless elegance of the decor. Both rustic and class, country farmhouse style decor is particularly a good fit for a bedroom. For me, I always start with the right wall color. Picking the right farmhouse paint color is essential to setting the tone of the room. For a classic country look, any neutral or off white will do. For a more modern farmhouse feel, try a light blue or pastel blue green. If there is built in cabinetry, the light blue and unfinished wood make for a fresh take on classic decor style. I also think blues and green pair well with distressed white furniture as well. Another important element of a country bedroom is the bedding. A great rivulet quilt can make the room (and literally make the bed). This bohemian rustic embroidered pattern in white create the perfect cozy vibe for a cottage bedroom. If you want a more contemporary take on the look, try for a more modern grey or blush pink for a more feminine twist. Regardless, the country bedding is an essential part of a rustic farmhouse feel. Now you might be asking where you can find country farmhouse inspired furnishing and decor. My favorite place to shop for rustic furnishing is Pottery Barn. If there was no budget, I would just buy the entire set from the catalog. Unfortunately, Pottery Barn is really expensive so I’m always looking for stores like Pottery Barn. My favorite alternative is World Market. A lot of times they will have the same items but for half the price. For me I love decorating with different accessories and throw pillows. World Market has a fantastic selection of basic rustic throw pillows that are so affordable you might be able to get a new set every season. They also have a lot of other home accents like lighting and trays and vases. These details can add a lot of style to a room. I also like a good trunk at the base of the bed. A trunk at the base of the bed is great because not only does it provide extra seating but it is a great place to store messing things and still keep it relatively accessible. Regardless, the most important part of creating the country inspired bedroom experience though is maintaining a relaxed, leisurely mindless.
