Dr. SaKong is the chairman and chief executive officer and creator of the IGE (Institute of Global Economics). IGE is a nonprofit private research institute based in Seoul the capital of South Korea since 1993. He won several different awards and prizes for his outstanding dedicated contribution to the country. He took his MBA and Ph.D from the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. SaKong is a writer as well and he composed five books mainly concentrating on the Korean economy.
The company owns JoongAng Ilbo which is among the major Korean Daily and JTBC too, which will be his brother's TV channel. From 1987-88, Dr. SaKong served as Minister of Finance from the Government of the Republic of Korea. By February 2009 to 2012 February, he led the Korea International Trade Association (KITA). However, this season (2018) Dr. SaKong resigned as the Chairman of the Korea Trade Association. On his resignation, he commented that even after his resignation he would still wish to donate to the nation's economy and commerce. Dr. SaKong although put the belief that he was voluntarily resigning, the business insiders are extremely much sure that the veteran economist did not wish to leave the post.
