Keeping Speeding Tickets Under Control With Car Radar |

f you feel you must speed and don’t have the money to pay speeding tickets, you will want to have a car radar detector. There are several good ones on the market today and one can be found in your price range if you sift through all the numbers and terms. The Three Basic Types There are three basic bands of radar is use; X-Band, K-Band and Ka-Band, and there may be different frequencies on each band. Add to that laser radar and POP radar and the number of possibilities climbs to a dozen or more. The car radar detector you choose should at least be able to find 12 bands and laser. Most units mount on the dash or with suction cups to the windshield. The X, K and Ka-Band radar uses a continuous microwave beam, which is picked up by the car radar detector, which issues an alert to the driver. POP radar, known as such due to its emission of a short burst of a microwave beam measuring in the milliseconds, can also be picked up by most car radar detectors. Laser radar, on the other hand, shoots out bursts of concentrated light that are bounced off the front of the vehicle, rarely reaching the dash or windshield, consequently not hitting the detector. It’s best to have a laser-capable car radar detector installed by a professional as it entails installation behind the front grill of the car with a head installed under each headlight and two more spaced on the grill. If installed correctly, no matter where the tight light beam hits the front of the car, the detector will see it. Another consideration for choosing a car radar detector is the distance it can read ahead of you and the sensitivity. The rule of thumb is the detector should be able to reach out at least six times the strength of the radar, which is usually about a quarter of a mile. Filtering is another important feature that determines how many false alerts you will hear. Less filtering could cause many false alerts as they can be activated by signals from other car radar units or even garage doors. The type of alert your car radar detector provides is also important, because if you don’t understand the alert, it does you no good. The better models will have text and light that will show the type of radar it is and its signal strength. This can be important so you’ll know if you have time to slow down or if it’s too late.
