How to clear the MacBook before selling it? You just need to reformat your drive and reinstall a clean version of OS. The first important thing you must do before selling your old MacBook is to clear your data from it. You do not need to accidentally sell it to any stranger when you still not subscribe to iCloud. Steps before selling your MacBook• Take the Backup of your MacBook Take the Backup of your MacBookTransfer all your data from old Mac to a newer one or use a backup. If you do not have a new Mac yet, then you probably should not be selling your older one. However, if you don't believe you will need your older PC before the new one, make sure to back up your data. Sign out of all application, email, memberships and the like Your Mac software license is yours, so it will not be transferred to new owner. To avoid complexities ensure to sign out all where your info is connected to. • To sign out iTunes and iMessage 1. Open Messages on Mac. 2. Click Messages in Menu bar at top left corner 3. Click Preferences from drop-down. 4. Select iMessage account and Click Sign-out. • To Sign out Messages on Mac 1. Click Apple icon in the upper left corner 2. Click System Preferences from drop-down 3. Then Click iCloud • To Sign out Find My Mac 1. Un-check Find My Mac box 2. Enter password 3. Click Sign Out and click remove data Reformat your hard driveAs soon as your data is backed up and you have signed out of each and everything which might connect your device to personal info, you can erase them all by just reformatting your drive. RestartAs startup disc is booting up, hold down Command+R keys at the same time. Your Mac will automatically boot into macOS Recover. After this select Disk Utility,> Click continue. Then eDisk Utility on your Mac> select startup disk or Macintosh HD or the like> Erase by pressing the buttons at top of Disk Utility window. How to select startup disk on Your Mac?Enter a file name you want to destroy. If your device is using HFS+, choose Mac OS Extended from list. If it is using APFS, chose APFS from the list. After completion, select Quit Disk Utility from drop-down list of Disk Utility to erase your startup disk. After reformatting your drive, it will become ready for clean installation of OS. You are already in Utilities Window, if not, restart and hold down Command+R until you see Apple’s Logo. Remember you must be connected to internet for software verification. Your Mac will start into macOS recover. Click reinstall macOs to reinstall and click continue. Select Macintosh HD or similar option, when prompt. Click Install and your Mac will restart as soon as installation is completed. Hold Command+Q as soon as installation is completed. Don’t follow setup instructions because this is for new user.
